Promotion of rail transport, with incentives, analysis of costs and benefits and how to discourage the use of rubber with respect to iron

Work method that has given rise to specific work groups

Minister Delrio took part in the Brenner Meeting Monaco, the European traffic summit along the Brenner axis, organized by the Coordinator of the EU’s Scandinavian-Mediterranean Corridor, Pat Cox, which was held in Munich.

“I think it’s a great day because a joint working method is established where decisions are taken together.

A working method that we must continue, also with the upcoming events of May and the future appointments we have given ourselves, a working method that has given rise to very important specific working groups on the promotion of rail transport and on the analysis of the beneficial costs and on how to discourage – together with the Zurich groups, who are already working on this – the use of rubber with respect to iron.

So, there is a common direction.

All of our countries intend and have already implemented measures to promote the transport of goods by rail, with incentives: we have a joint initiative with the provinces of Trento and Bolzano; as a country we have set incentives for all operators carrying goods on iron and we have invested billions of euros in this period to strengthen the logistical structures of the corridor, which is a great opportunity and a great opportunity for development, not only for our countries but for the whole of Europe.

It is a very positive day.

The fact that the Corridoio del Brennero is a corridor that will be completed, with the full commitment of all the actors, is confirmed.

The horizon is 2027 but we do not wait for that moment to finally celebrate a complete modal shift of goods, but we work right away and bring together common actions to start strengthening this modal shift more and more. undertakes to promote and definitively approve the action plan for the Brenner, which includes many important measures and which will give, I believe, a great response, a true and serious answer to all the populations living along the corridor and which, I repeat, will have from this corridor great opportunities for development that we want to be a sustainable development, made of quality of life and not, as unfortunately still today, a development that troubles the local populations who, rightly, have raised and demand a more decisive commitment.

I believe that today’s work gives them an answer and that it is a visible manifestation of a common commitment for which I thank my colleagues, the presidents of the Regions and the coordinator of the Corridor “, said Minister Delrio.

In addition to Minister Delrio, the Ministers of Transport of Austria and Germany took part in the meeting, as well as the local Governors of the territories concerned (Bavaria, Tyrol, Alto Adige and Trentino).
