Intellectual Property, Enhancing the visibility of intellectual property: EPO and LESI sign the MoU on bilateral cooperation

Winter Planning Meeting in Miami

The European Patent Office (EPO) and the Licensing Executives Society International (LESI) have signed a memorandum of understanding on bilateral cooperation to help innovators make better use of the European patent system.

The agreement was signed by the president of the EPO and the president of LESI at the recent Winter Planning Meeting at LESI in Miami, Florida.

This enhanced cooperation will enable the EPO and LESI to extend the scope of joint activities for stakeholders in the innovation ecosystem, in particular small and medium-sized enterprises, industry representatives, technology transfer experts, publicly funded research organizations, IP consultants, innovation centers, user associations, IP offices and government policymakers.

The Memorandum of Understanding between the two partners will remain in force for a period of five years and will prolong the positive history of cooperation between the EPO and the LESI.

“The main objective of our agreement is to enable current and future innovators to make better use of the patent system by overcoming barriers such as a lack of knowledge of IP options and commercialization,” said the EPO president.

“This will help innovators see the business opportunities that IP can create.”

The Cooperation aims to enhance the visibility of intellectual property and its protection, transfer and commercialization, promote networking among stakeholders, lower entry barriers for participants from emerging countries and create favorable conditions, where applicable, for protection, transfer and better use of technology.
