Environment, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Companies, New Growth Opportunities, Memorandum of Understanding between the Italian Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Energy and Public Services of the Republic of Mauritius

Signed in Port Louis a Memorandum of Understanding between the Italian Ministry for the Environment and Protection of the Italian Territory and the Ministry of Energy and Public Services of the Republic of Mauritius for cooperation in the field of renewable energy, of energy efficiency and the fight against climate change.

They signed the Memorandum of Understanding, the General Manager Francesco La Camera, for Italy, and the Senior Chief Executive Nirmaladevi Nababsing, for Mauritius.

The strong exposure and vulnerability to climate change makes the Small Islands in Development a strategic priority for the Ministry of the Environment.

To date, in fact, almost 50 projects promoted by the Ministry in the island states, and in particular in the Pacific Islands, the Caribbean, the Maldives and Cuba, with a strong emphasis on the aspects related to renewable energy and efficiency energy.

During the signing ceremony held at the Hennessy Park Hotel in Port Louis, the Deputy Prime Minister of Mauritius recalled the priorities of the newly signed protocol, emphasizing in particular the objectives of producing renewable energy from sea waves and creating a center at the forefront in this field, sustainable waste management, promotion of weather warning systems and use of renewable energy for pumping water and stabilization of the national electricity grid.

The Ministry of the Environment will co-finance the activities approved under the Protocol with a maximum amount of 2 million euros and will support the participation of the private sector and civil society in initiatives and projects.
