Window system will be extended to all films, Italian and foreign, no longer just to beneficiaries of public funding

Decree of the Ministry of Culture

“It is important that the Senate chamber has given a strong and determined impetus to government action on the issue of the cinema crisis: cinemas are important cultural sites that it is right to protect. It is also significant that there has been substantial agreement in the various motions on whether the regulation of time windows needs to be improved, i.e. how long films must stay in theaters before going to a platform and that there is a very clear indication, of to which the Government will take into account the equalization between Italian films and foreign films in order not to have unequal treatment ”.

Thus the Minister of Culture spoke in the hall of Palazzo Madama at the end of the general discussion of the motions on the crisis in cinemas.

The debate ended with a favorable vote on the motions which reconcile the different needs of the entire film industry chain and which all provide for the determination, by the Ministry of Culture with its own decree, of the time windows of permanence in the theater, for Italian and foreign films, of at least ninety days, with the exception of difficult works, not intended for the general public, for which shorter time windows may be evaluated.

The time windows for the films to remain in theaters will therefore cover all productions, both Italian and foreign, and no longer just those supported by the state.
